The skeletal remains of a teenage girl found in a remote area in Texas has been confirmed by the FBI to be that of missing Texas cheerleader, Hailey Dunn. The announcement was made more than a month after the remains were found in a pasture.
A little over two years since she was reported missing by her mother in December 28, 2010, Hailey Dunn has finally been found. She is bound to be laid to rest by her family and friends who have waited eagerly for her arrival. But their emotional closure is only the beginning of the opening of the case and journey to finding out what truly happened to Hailey Dunn after the night she disappeared.
The remains were found near the JB Thomas Lake in Scurry County in West Texas. The place is roughly about 20 miles from her hometown in Colorado City. The remains were found scattered around the area and were later taken to the University of North Texas for identification where it was then confirmed that it was really the remains of 13-year of Hailey.
The sheriff of Scurry County and other police authorities have yet to release the findings of the investigations. They did not say if the Hailey Dunn case was a homicide, but they are not ruling out the possibilities either. Investigations are currently ongoing and at the moment, no one has been charged with anything regarding the disappearance and death of Hailey Dunn.
Dunn was last seen by family and friends December 27th of 2010. According to a statement by her mother’s live in boyfriend at the type, Shawn Adkins, Hailey said she was spending the afternoon at her father’s and then going on to sleep over at her friends. Adkins also said that Hailey and her mother had a fight on the day she went missing.
The friend was later interviewed and said she had no plans whatsoever of meeting or having Hailey for a sleepover. She also said she didn’t know that Dunn was on her way to see her. Hailey’s father also did not get to see her that day.
Adkins was later listed under persons of interest to the case after he failed a polygraph test and his statements were found to have been contradicting with the statements of Hailey’s mother, Billie Dunn. Billie also failed the polygraph test and was later put on probation for lying to the police about not knowing the whereabouts of Adkins when he was just in her house all along.
The two admitted to taking drugs the night before Hailey went missing.
Both Adkins and Billie Dunn were found to be in possession of reading materials related to crime, sadism and masochism, as well as a document containing the biography of a Pennsylvania serial killer. When questioned about it, Dunn said she and Adkins had a mutual interest in the topic and that it was merely a ‘hobby’. In a recent interview, Billie Dunn said she and Adkins had already broken up in 2012.
